In 1987, Sierra On-Line, Inc. released an adult-themed graphic adventure called Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards for PC, Apple, Atari ST and Amiga.
Created by Al Lowe, the game was heavily inspired by Sierra’s text adventure Softporn Adventure from 1981. Both games feature the same story and structure, but Lowe's production was the one that introduced an unforgettable anti-hero, Larry Laffer, to the world.
Larry’s first escapade seemed like a flop at first with only 4000 copies sold at launch. However, it did not take long for people to start talking about the misadventures of a middle-aged male looking for love. Eventually the word of mouth made the game a huge commercial and critical success, and kickstarted a new series for Sierra.
