– Edgar Froese (1944-2015) / Tangerine Dream
German electronic music pioneer Edgar Froese was most famous for being the head of Tangerine Dream, music project which has released countless albums, singles and eps since its inception in 1967. Froese was the longest standing member of Tangerine Dream until his death in 2015, at the age of 71.
Froese was a big proponent of Atari computers as music workstations, both in studio and during live performances. Tangerine Dream were even sponsored by Atari. They had the company's logo printed on their Optical Race (1988) album tour t-shirts.
Tangerine Dream were also famous for their film soundtrack work in the 1980s. Their most famous movie scores include William Friedkin’s Sorcerer, Michael Mann’s Thief, the Tom Cruise vehicles Risky Business and Legend, and Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark.
