Parasol Stars - Copy Protection Poetry from the '90s

The game that features umbrellas and an iconic song from the classic film Wizard of Oz is Taito’s Parasol Stars from 1991! It was subtitled Rainbow Islands 2. As the advertisements said, let’s “jump on it!”

This cute platformer is also known as The Story of Bubble Bobble III, and as the name implies, it is the third game in the beloved Bubble Bobble saga. Originally released on PC Engine, the game was quickly converted to 16-bit home computers and other home consoles.

Parasol Stars is also known for its complex copy protection scheme, which Data Storm guest author Denis Lechevalier describes “as a real poem”.
